Day Treatment Drug Rehab
Day treatment drug rehab is a lesser known form of rehabilitation, but serves as a middle road between inpatient and outpatient rehab.  This area discusses the important features of day treatment drug rehab and why this kind of treatment may be the best form for some addicts in the search for recovery.

Day Treatment Drug Rehab Day treatment drug rehab is a very valuable form of drug rehab as it is very close to the intensity of inpatient treatment, but not as unsupervised as outpatient rehab.  In day treatment, individuals spend the day in drug rehab, attending meetings, counseling sessions, therapy sessions, and group classes.  Often, persons in day treatment drug rehab will spend this time with others involved in residential treatment.  The only difference between day treatment and inpatient drug rehab is the fact that day treatment spans from early morning hours (ususally 7am or 8am) through the evening (5pm or 6pm) and then the rehab program is over for the day while persons in residential drug rehab will return to the treatment center for the rest of the night.  Day treatment drug rehab is everyday, usually during regular work hours, giving it most of the intensity of inpatient drug rehab.  Not all centers offer day treatment, but it can usually be found in drug rehab centers which offer inpatient treatment as individuals in day treatment often spend their day with those in residential treatment.
Day treatment drug rehab has been formulated to accomodate those who need more than outpatient drug rehab, but have an addiction which does not require the constant treatment offered in residential drug rehab.  Again, each situation is different and it is important to understand the addiction and the addict before making a decision.  Day treatment drug rehab is more effective for addicts who need more guidance for recovery with longer sessions and extended periods of support from groups and counselors, but generally this kind of drug rehab is favored among those who have a safe, sober environment to return to at the end of the day.  Many adults with a spouse and children opt for this kind of treatment because it will still allow them to be a part of family life before and after day treatment.  While this is a valuable resource for recovery, it is not for all situations.  For example, if an individual is addicted to meth and lives in an area saturated with meth use and dealing, day treatment is probably not the best answer.  Sobriety may be easily attained druing the day treatment sessions, but a return home will prove as very dangerous throughout the night.  In this kind of situation, inpatient drug rehab may be the best choice.  Alternatively, for a mother who has become addicted to her pain or anxiety medication living at home with her husband and kids, day treatment may be adequate as she will have a safe, loving environment when she comes home from treatment, free of drugs, alcohol, and bad influences.  It truly depends on each situation as to what kind of treatment is best and safest.  Day treatment has many advantages for individuals who are able to get the help they need from it.  When the addiction, support, and living situation will allow it, day treatment drug rehab can be the best thing in the world.  Many people, especially those with very close relationships with children, family members, or spouses may be more interested in day treatment drug rehab.  Some cases of addiction will not allow any drug rehab short of resdiential treatment, but for the cases that fit the mold, day treatment gives the addict the intense addiction treatment needed to provide tools for sobriety, and the safe care of loved ones at the end of the day.  This kind of dual support is invaluable to many people and they can find a great deal of solice and comfort in day treatment drug rehab.
The assessment of each situation is a difficult task, but the main factors for determining the appropriateness of day treatment drug rehab lie in the home life.  Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to determine whether day treatment drug rehab is right for you.

What kind of neighborhood surrounds home? Are there drugs, liquor stores, or bars close to home?
When considering the answer to this question, think about immediate surroundings.  Do you have neighbors who frequently abuse drugs or alcohol?  Or is there a neighborhood drug dealer who knows you and has frequently sold you drugs in the past?  If the answer to these and questions like these is "yes", you are not living in a safe enough environment for day treatment.  Especially if these people who abuse and deal drugs know you and your abuse history, they will more than likely not be in support of your recovery and offer you these substances the moment you return home at the end of the day.  The whole premise behind day treatment rehab is the idea that there is a safe environment to return to at the end of daily sessions and by no means is it safe to have negative influences all around you while you are still in drug rehab and early stages of recovery.

Who lives at home and how committed are they to your recovery?
This is imperative to success in day treatment drug rehab.  The first thing is that you should have at least one person at home to provide you with additional support at the end of the day.  Otherwise, inpatient drug rehab would be the better choice.  When considering who you have at home, think about what that person's level of committment to your recovery.  Is this someone who will not be involved in your recovery, supporting your efforts to stay sober and keeping negative influences from you?  Alternatively, do you have someone at home who has urged you to get help and who is as committed to your recovery as you are?  If this is someone who has taken steps to ensure that there are no drugs or alcohol anywhere near your home and shows you unconditional strong support for recovery, you have a proper support system at home and a much better chance at success in day treatment drug rehab.

Has your home life been a source of stress for you?
If you've experiencd multiple problems at home in getting along with your family for any reason, it may not be a particulary good idea to attend day treatment.  Even if the problems at home were caused specifically by addiction, when there is tension at home, it won't go away just because you're in drug rehab.  During the rehab or early recovery phase of addiction treatment, the last thing you need is to come home to arguments and tension.  Total surroundings should be as positive and supportive as possible for a healthy recovery.  Everything else about home life may be perfect for day treatment drug rehab, but if there is tension at home, no matter how good the intentions are or how much love there is, the best thing may be to go to inpatient drug rehab and get a clean start once treatment has been completed.
