Gatehouse Academy is a long term drug rehab and alcohol rehab for young adults ages 17 to 25 in need of extended care treatment. For immediate assistance contact us on (888) 730.0905 Gatehouse Academy offers an integrated departmental approach throughout all of our campuses and locations. Each department is unique and readily contributes to the overall goal of recovery for each individual young adult. Most of our residents have been in previous treatment or more contained settings. We understand that they know how to get along in these environments. Everything that we do, from the physical set-up of the plant to the interactions of the staff, is part of this integrated approach. What is created is a seamless offering of various and unique departments all united under the common goal of recovery for each resident. Our staff takes an active role as "life coaches" and are very involved in mentoring residents. We hire staff that have life experience in recovery. Residents are put in leadership positions and asked to lead a work crew, do the shopping, prepare a meal plan, cook, go to the lumber yard and sign on an account, or teach a class utilizing a talent they have in yoga, art, music, or dance.

I attended Gatehouse in the last year, and was succeeding in sobriety. I was following the advice of staff and peers, and working consistently with my sponsor. I also have Bipolar Disorder Type 1. I firmly believe that if I read on Wikipedia about mood disorders I would know more than their medical staff. I have a history of manic episodes induced by SSRI's. I was given Paxil at a very low dose to help cope with anxiety at the advice of the medical staff, who was more than aware of my sensitivity to anti-depressants. I became completely unstable, spent a day homeless in Phoenix, and was then asked to leave Gatehouse and go to a Psychiatric Institution as I was displaying Schizotypal traits, and was a matter of concern for the staff. Trusting the staff, I agreed. Within a week of being in the Psychiatric Institution, the doctors told me that they saw no justification for the Schizotypal diagnosis, and that all of my instability was caused by the Paxil. Yes, the medication I took because I trusted Gatehouse with my mental health caused me to put my life in danger. Basically, gatehouse is great for Chemical dependence, but bricks have more insight in to psychiatry then Gatehouse Therapeutic team.
