JADE is a 12 hour course divided into 2 evening sessions, 3 hours of independent work for the juveniles, and a one hour follow up meeting called an “exit interview”. Participants will be educated about the effects of substance abuse, drug tested, interact in a group process with CYS counselors, and witness powerful presentations given by people whose lives have been impacted by drugs and alcohol. Each part of the program is supervised and facilitated by experienced professionals in the drug and alcohol field. Every participant is evaluated and is interactively involved through the progression of the program. Concluding the course, each participant and their parents/guardians will receive resources, strategies, and information to help them improve and change their lifestyles. DECISIONS is a legal awareness diversion program for juveniles ages 12-17. DECISIONS is reality-based and focuses on the legal consequences of committing crime and poor decisions making. The program is held on two consecutive Tuesdays at a maximum security jail, each meeting is approximately four hours long. A parent/guardian must attend with the minor. The goals of the program are to; teach juveniles the process and importance of good decision making, educate parents about their legal rights and responsibilities concerning their children, inform participants about the realities of incarceration and probation and dissuade youth from continuing to break the law. DECSIONS classes are taught by Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies, Orange County Probation Officers, Guest Speakers, and CYS Staff.
