I feel I should say that I have been to Rader, and that there website is very misleading. I am happy to say that I am in recovery, but little of that had to do with Rader. There website says that art therapy is a big component of their program, but I was there for six months and there was never an art therapist. Every week patients would put in a suggestion box that they felt it was needed, but it always was ignored. Instead, an intern in marriage and family counseling would read ideas from books. Not only that, but the art supplies consisted of broken crayons and dried up markers. There also was no other creative therapies like dance or music.
The setting was horrible. The building is a former nursing home, with shabby walls and no comfortable places to sit. One woman ended up having major back problems because of the chairs we had to sit on. It offers a view of a highway and broken down homes, and I once saw a prostitute in the alley behind the building. Walking outside is depressing because of how ugly it is.
The food was horrible; there was no actual chef or anyone trained in cooking. The vegetables were beyond soggy, and the only food that was fresh was the fruit.
My therapist, El, was amazing, but that was about the extent of the benefits. I didn't have a psychiatrist, just a nurse practitioner. Also, there is no physician on call or working there. Additionally, many of the other therapists were unqualified. Most were in the process of getting licensed, and didn't have the proper training to work with people who had very deep issues.
Anyway, I just feel that anyone interested in going there should know the facts. Robin, the intake coordinator tends to not be very honest. Most of the things she told me about the place were not true.
